In 1960 the oak was declared as natural monument, though from 1987 it was annouced as natural monument of national importance. It is the Quercus robur. 

1960 m. paskelbtas gamtos paminklu, o nuo 1987 m., - respublikinės reikšmės gamtos paminklas. Tai paprastasis ąžuolas (Quercus robur).  The tree exceeds natural maturity and it is at resignation phase. Its height is 26 m. 

It is believed, that the oak grows here from the times of pagans. 

From the memories of the old Plungė Citizens we found out, that duke's Mykolas Oginskis wife Mary under the oak prepared performances for children and younth.
